Carolyn E. Roberts
Carolyn Roberts is a native of Stamford Connecticut, who lived in Oak Park, Illinois 1995-2004, and built her current home in Chicago, Illinois in 2004. She is an energetic and enthusiastic team member of HandsOn Suburban Chicago, located in Arlington Heights, Illinois currently serving as Director of AmeriCorps Seniors, RSVP of Northern Cook and DuPage counties. She has held executive leadership positions in Fortune 100 and 500 companies; traveling nationally and internationally. Her work experience has provided a wide perspective on how to utilize her skill-set to identify issues and successful resolutions by creatively engaging diverse groups of problem solvers.
Moving into Lawndale, a disenfranchised area of Chicago with huge potential and value, has increased her awareness of the impact of invisibility and inequality. She believes there is exponential untapped power, talent, and creativity in Lawndale and communities with similar demographics throughout the country. However, leaderships’ process of ignoring the community issues has also delayed the exposure of creative, effective solutions found within the community. This is the reason she has turned to the non-profit arena to engage, excite and empower.
She is a creator who dabbles in writing, art, and music. She also is a gardener with aspirations of being at least a 2-season grower. Of course, provided she can keep the squirrels out of her starter pots.
