From June 29 –July 2, 2023, and September 17 – September 18, 2023, there were record-setting floods in Cook County, inciting a presidential major disaster declaration. DR 4728 Illinois was declared on August 13, 2023, and DR 4749 Illinois was declared on November 20, 2023. Hundreds of families were impacted financially, emotionally, and physically, with many being displaced or losing their belongings. Almost a year later, residents continue to have water damage and mold in their basements and other areas of their homes but have not had the resources to recover.

IDHS-Serve Illinois has been collaborating with community partners and long-term recovery groups across Cook County to assist those affected through ongoing efforts.

We are seeking volunteers with construction experience to assist with the recovery of Cook County in upcoming projects on the Westside, Southside, and South Suburban.
