Community Advocacy Awareness Network (CAAN)

On Friday, November 17th, 2023, Serve Illinois Volunteer Program Manager, Jacob Jenkins, and Upstate Volunteer Programs Coordinator, Cecilia Maciel Martinez, attended the Community Advocacy Awareness Network (CAAN) Unity Dinner celebrating Veterans at the Prisco Center in Aurora, Illinois. Volunteers were recognized as part of the Governor’s Hometown Award certificate recognition project. The Community Advocacy Awareness Network and the City of Aurora were the Governor’s Hometown Award Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category winners for Population Division 2. This organization has been serving those in need for 20 years, including youth, veterans, seniors, and the unhoused, creating community engagement endeavors. Additionally, founder Mary Fultz was recognized as an Honorary AmeriCorps member in celebration of AmeriCorps’ 30th anniversary. To learn more about CAAN, head to https://www.thecaan.org/
