Shelley Long
Shelley Long is the Manager of Community Affairs at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois.
Shelley is a committed subject matter expert and collaborator with over 13 years of leading strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
Her core responsibilities include leading employee engagement through the organizations CSR and volunteer programs; locally and in partnership with national efforts. Her efforts are strategically designed at enhancing the organization’s CSR footprint in communities who benefit from meaningful and impactful year-
round activations. Prior to joining BCBSIL, Shelley provided direction of the volunteer and community relations program for Zurich North America and delivered CSR consultation across 45 U. S. offices. She was recognized with a Zurich Bronze Award for developing and implementing key volunteer programs as well as a Volunteer Time-Off policy to expand employee engagement.
Prior to joining Zurich, Shelley worked within the Corporate Affairs team at Cargill where she was responsible for collaborative relationship-building and reputation management throughout North America to increase CSR efforts. A key component of her role entailed managing over 250 global employee volunteer councils and providing strategic CSR consultation to key Business Units and stakeholders. During her tenure, Shelley successfully launched Cargill’s signature Earth Day program in 194 locations across 30 countries and was the recipient of four Corporate Affairs recognition awards for developing and excelling in various company-wide initiatives.
Shelley was recently appointed as a commissioner for the Governor's Serve Illinois Commission, and serves on the boards of Autism Speaks Chicago and The Difference Engine. She enjoys spending time with her son Jalen, volunteering, traveling, writing and performing poetry.
