Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The mission of CERT is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
In Illinois, the CERT program is administered by the Serve Illinois Commission. The state of Illinois also has a local association of CERT programs, the CERT Association of Illinois.

In partnership with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the Serve Illinois Commission coordinates the state CERT train-the-trainer program. Please visit the Illinois CERT Train-the Trainer page for specific course requirements.
The Serve Illinois Commission is proud to be part of the planning team for the Prairie State CERT Challenge, an annual exercise event that brings together local CERT teams to exercise their skills learned in CERT training. The CERT Association of Illinois is the lead planning organization for this event.
